About Course

Welcome to this course on Engaging People with lived experience in research implementation
Globally, there has been an emphasis on the importance and value of involving people with lived experience of mental health conditions in service delivery, development and leadership. Such individuals have taken on various roles, from peer support specialists and other specialized professions to leadership in mainstream industries.  This course discusses the benefits, both to the individual and to the public, of involving persons with lived experience in service delivery, development and leadership. In this course, you will be able to learn how to work with people with lived experiences, these are individuals with firsthand information and hold immense knowledge. In this course, you will be introduced to different concepts such as what people with lived experiences (PLE) refer to, the historical context and evolution of lived experience research, ethical considerations in conducting research involving PLE, explore methodologies such as; Narrative Inquiry, Participatory Action Research (PAR), Case Studies, etc.

  • Conceptualize engagement in research and understand its role in the research process.
  • Identify key stakeholders, analyse their roles, and develop strategies for effective
    engagement.
  • Build collaborative partnerships for successful research outcomes
  • Understand and apply the principles of participatory research in engaging with lived
    experience participants
  • Be able to empower lived experience participants and ensure their meaningful involvement in the research process
  • Navigate ethical considerations and address potential challenges
  • Apply the knowledge gained to design and implement meaningful lived experience research projects
